Welcome to Team Ronin

Welcome to the Team Ronin website. We're a group of friends based in the lower mainland that play hockey together. We've played in several venues, but currently we have our Friday Night Hockey games setup in Burnaby's 8-Rinks. Team Ronin was setup for the members that wanted a more competitive atmosphere, only found in league games.

This site is setup for detailed information for both Team Ronin players, as well as the Friday Night Hockey players. In most case, they are one in the same. There are also general areas for hockey and non-hockey topics.

Team Ronin and Friday Night Hockey forums are restricted to players only. All other topics are open for anyone to post.

Friday Night Hockey 06/07

Welcome back to the 06/07 Friday Night Hockey session. Hope everyone had a good summer. We already had our first game on the newly renovated ice rink. Personally, I like it. Ice seems more consistent and harder, no ponds, and the gap where pucks tend to get stuck aren't there anymore. Some of the doors still seem a little stiff and don’t lock properly, but I’m sure they’ll be fixed in time.

Way to start off a session. For the first game, the pace was pretty good and the teams were fairly even. A reminder, players should get into shape to play hockey, not play hockey to get into shape. Was sent this artical a while back.

In March 2005, the Ottawa Citizen newspaper ran an article on the importance of staying in shape during the off-season. This was then later published in the Vancouver Sun around the same time.

This 3 part article discusses several heart related issues primarily identifying symptoms related to heart attacks and ways to avoid it. As the article states, "we want to strongly encourage adult recreational hockey players to get into shape to play hockey, not to get into shape by playing hockey."

In June Canlan Ice Sports North Shore took precautionary measures and have installed an A.E.D. (Automatic External Defibrulator) in the event of a medical emergency. This policy was recently implimented at all Canlan Ice Sports facilities in North America and already 1 life was saved in our Saskatoon facility as a result of having the A.E.D. on site.
